The so-called “police” in the occupied territories requested that the detention of the two Greek Cypriots be extended for another two days, in connection with a case involving “illegal entry into a first-degree restricted military zone,” as it claims. The so-called “court” granted the request and ordered that they remain in custody for another two days.
We recall that the two Greek Cypriots, a man and a woman, allegedly entered the occupied territories on July 12, 2026, via the Limnitis checkpoint.
During the proceedings, the so-called “police officer” Orçun Karantayı claimed that the two Greek Cypriots crossed from the free areas into the occupied territories in a private vehicle, without stopping at the passport checkpoint and without following the prescribed entry procedures.
At the same time, it is reported that the pair were located later that same day when they attempted to return to the free areas via the Zodia checkpoint, where they were arrested.
According to the reports, the young man is a soldier serving in the National Guard.
