Fire at an illegal dump in Paphos

A fire at an illegal dump site in Peristerona, Paphos, has been brought under complete control.

According to a statement from the Department of Forests, the fire broke out on Saturday afternoon, October 10, 2026, at an illegal landfill near the community of Peristerona, in the Paphos district.

According to the announcement, the fire broke out at 3:18 p.m. and was brought under complete control at 3:40 p.m., thanks to the immediate response of the firefighting forces.

A fire truck from the Forestry Department, with a crew of three, was deployed to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Meanwhile, another forest fire that broke out on Saturday afternoon, October 10, 2026, in the Fytis community, in the Paphos district.

The fire broke out at 4:25 p.m. near a road in the community and was completely extinguished at 4:52 p.m.

The fire burned a small area of low wild vegetation, and personnel from the Forestry Department and the Fire Service were mobilized to combat it.

Specifically, the firefighting operation involved one fire truck from the Forestry Department with three personnel, as well as three fire trucks from the Fire Department with nine personnel.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Earlier, a third fire had broken out in the “Agios Georgios” area, on the border of the Tremithousa Community Park in the Paphos district. The fire broke out at 2:55 p.m. and was fully extinguished at 3:55 p.m., having burned an area of three decares of low wild vegetation.
