What the court took into account
ALPHANEWSLIVE

The court sentenced the 30-year-old man to 18 months in prison for stealing a priest’s vehicle, who was acquitted of the charges related to the murder of businessman Stavros Demosthenous, which occurred on October 17, 2025

Among other things, the court noted that the sentence took into account the fact that he had a cell phone in his cell, a case that is pending before a court, as well as the 30-year-old’s three previous convictions, which relate to offenses of the same nature.

It should be noted that during the previous hearing, the facts of the case were presented regarding the theft of a priest’s vehicle, which the 30-year-old admitted to.

As stated, the 30-year-old had instructed another person to steal the vehicle, and when the vehicle was stolen, the 30-year-old reportedly told him, “Come on, bring it to Nicosia.” That person is alleged to have received €300 from the defendant for stealing the vehicle.

This individual had previously been arrested in connection with the murder case but was not prosecuted because he will be called as a witness for the prosecution.

Subsequently, the 30-year-old arranged to give the vehicle to another person. The vehicle was located on October 14 near the Sfalangiotisa Cemetery, and Defendant 1 was arrested on October 19, stating that he would say whatever he had to say in court.

Before the Criminal Court, reference was also made to previous convictions, including the discovery of a cell phone while he was in custody. As stated in court, when his cell was searched, he said, “The thing you’re looking for is behind the outlet; I didn’t use it.”

The defense attorney submitted his closing argument in writing and spoke verbally about the defendant’s personal circumstances.
