The well-known Cypriot sculptor Filippos Giapanis was the victim of a theft, as unknown individuals removed one of his recent works from the sculpture park he maintains in Fasoula, Limassol.
According to the artist himself, the theft occurred over the weekend. Mr. Giapanis had completed this particular work on the afternoon of last Friday, along with five other sculptures. On Saturday, he was away from the site as he was in Nicosia, a fact that the perpetrators appear to have taken advantage of.
The artwork is made of bronze. The artist believes that the perpetrators’ motive was not the value of the metal, since there were other, smaller sculptures that could have been removed more easily if the goal had simply been to resell the material.
The artist is making a public appeal to anyone with information, even offering a reward of 5,000 euros for information leading to the recovery of the artwork.
