As part of the YKAN’s efforts to identify and arrest individuals involved in the trafficking and distribution of narcotics, a search was conducted yesterday afternoon pursuant to a court warrant at the home of a 32-year-old man in Larnaca.
During the search, a 23-year-old relative of the 32-year-old was present at the residence.
Inside the 23-year-old’s room, four firecrackers, two flares, and the sum of €13,250, all of which were seized and held as evidence, while the 23-year-old was arrested for offenses committed in the act.
It should be noted that the 32-year-old, who was not at home at the time, was contacted by a relative regarding the police presence. A member of the Drug Enforcement Unit spoke with him and asked him to come to the residence so that the police investigation could proceed. He replied that he was unable to go to the residence at that time.
At the same time, members of the YKAN were in the 32-year-old’s field, conducting a search pursuant to a court warrant that had been obtained earlier.
While the YKAN officers were in the field, a car driven by a 31-year-old man approached the area. The YKAN officers signaled him to stop using police lights.
As soon as the driver became aware of the police officers’ presence, while attempting to evade the checkpoint, he collided with three police vehicles and was brought to a stop. As a result of the collisions, a member of the YKAN sustained an injury to his arm; he was transported to Larnaca General Hospital, where he received first aid and was subsequently discharged.
The 31-year-old was arrested on the spot for offenses committed in the act, and a subsequent search revealed that he was in possession of 24 grams of cannabis, a grinder with traces of cannabis, a precision scale, and €100 in cash.
Shortly thereafter, the 32-year-old went to the field, where a search conducted in his presence a cooler was found containing five packages of cannabis, with a total gross weight of 910 grams, as well as various other items. The 32-year-old was arrested for offenses committed in flagrante delicto.
All of the above items found were seized as evidence, while the three individuals were re-arrested pursuant to court warrants and taken into custody. The YKAN, in cooperation with the Kofinou Police Station, is continuing its investigation.
