On July 13, 2026, officials from the Customs Department participated in a coordinated operation by the Paphos Drug Enforcement Agency (YKAN), with the assistance of the Paphos Police Station, the Pharmaceutical Services, and the Unit for Combating Intellectual Property Offenses and Illegal Gambling, at a kiosk in Kato Paphos.
During the inspection of the premises, 377 packages of nicotine pouches of various brands were found, for which no import or distribution license had been obtained for sale on the Cypriot market. The inspection also revealed that the owner did not possess the required license to trade in or sell legal manufactured tobacco products that he had on hand for sale at his premises.
The property owner was arrested on the spot for customs offenses, and the aforementioned quantities of nicotine packets were seized.
Following the completion of the investigation, his proposal for an out-of-court settlement of the offenses was accepted, subject to the payment of €3,100. At the same time, he consented in writing to the forfeiture of the confiscated products, which will undergo the prescribed destruction procedure.
