As part of the ongoing efforts of the Drug Enforcement Agency (YKAN), in cooperation with Customs Authorities, to detect and seize narcotic substances imported or attempted to be imported into the Republic of Cyprus, a quantity of cannabis, weighing a total of approximately 23 kilograms, was detected and seized today.
Specifically, at noon today, customs officers, acting on a tip from members of the Drug Enforcement Agency, stopped a 36-year-old man for inspection upon his arrival at Larnaca Airport from a third country.
During a search of his luggage, 42 black nylon packages were found and seized, containing a total of approximately 23 kilograms of dried cannabis plant material.
The 36-year-old was arrested on the spot for offenses committed in flagrante delicto and taken into custody.
The YKAN (Larnaca Unit) is continuing its investigation.
