Beachgoers descended on the protected beach of Lara with umbrellas and canopies, ignoring the recommendations and regulations of the Department of Fisheries, which explicitly prohibit, among other things, the placement of umbrellas and tents on the beach until September 30.
Specifically, during the sea turtle nesting season in Cyprus, from June 1 through September 30, at Lara – Toxetra, it is prohibited, among other things, to remain on the beach at night, to set up umbrellas, beach chairs, and tents, as well as to fish—with the exception of shore fishing. At the same time, throughout the year, driving vehicles on the beaches, littering, lighting fires, and collecting sand crabs are prohibited.
Nevertheless, the scene on Wednesday afternoon at Lara Beach was far from compliant with the regulations, as the photos show: beachgoers had set up umbrellas and tents.
AlphaNewsLive contacted a spokesperson for the Department of Fisheries, who told us that on Wednesday morning, inspections were carried out by the department’s enforcement unit, who patrol the beach to ensure compliance with regulations.
After receiving reports of beach umbrellas being set up, they rushed back to the scene to remind beachgoers of the regulations.
It should be noted that there are signs on the beach that explicitly state the prohibition.
