The area was packed on Wednesday evening in the Troodos region, as large numbers of locals and visitors gathered to witness the peak of the "Perseids," aided by the moonless sky.
Traffic backed up in the area around the Amiantos Astro Park for the two events organized, respectively, the AstroVerce Astronomy Club, in collaboration with the Cyprus Planetarium, and the Nightsky Explorers Club, respectively.
Equipped with warm clothing, blankets, chairs, food, and drinks, participants had the opportunity to enjoy the "Perseids," far from the city lights, gazing up at the sky, while some opted for a quieter experience in secluded spots.
Stargazing events were also organized by the Troodos Observatory in Agridia, the Cyprus Planetarium, the Kampos Community Council at the Kampos Astro Park, and the Anglisides Olive Museum, while the Larnaca Photography Club organized a photography outing at the Prodromos Dam.
Today, the last day that the “Perseids” meteor shower will be at its peak, the Kiti Planetarium and Observatory is organizing its traditional stargazing event at the KiteMed Kitesurfing Club on Sofades Beach in Larnaca (7:00 p.m.).
