Police arrested a 20-year-old man yesterday as part of an investigation by the Anti-Narcotics Service (YKAN) into a drug trafficking case. The case involves the illegal importation of nearly 43 kilograms of cathinone plant material, which was discovered and seized by YKAN in February 2024 in Larnaca.
The large quantity of cathinone plant material was discovered on February 29, 2024, in two suitcases that remained unclaimed after their arrival at Larnaca Airport. The two pieces of luggage arrived at Larnaca Airport from a foreign country on February 25, 2024, without being claimed by anyone.

In a joint operation between the National Agency for Combating Drugs (YKAN) and the Customs Department, on February 29, while the individuals were in the process of returning to their country of origin, their luggage was searched by members of the Customs Department, resulting in the discovery of the drugs. Specifically, a quantity of cathinone with a total gross weight of 42 kilograms and 950 grams was found and seized from the two pieces of luggage.
As part of the investigation into the case, a court arrest warrant was issued against the 20-year-old. He arrived at Larnaca Airport yesterday afternoon on a flight from abroad and was arrested pursuant to the arrest warrant.
The 20-year-old was brought before the Larnaca District Court today, which issued an order for his five-day detention.
The Cyprus Anti-Narcotics Agency (Larnaca District Unit) is continuing its investigation.
