A large quantity of cannabinoid products was seized after being found in a courier package at Larnaca Airport.
Specifically, on July 9, 2026, as part of joint operations by the Customs Department and the Drug Enforcement Agency to detect illicit drugs at the points of entry into the Republic of Cyprus, Customs Department officers at Larnaca Airport, in cooperation with members of the Drug Enforcement Agency, carried out a coordinated and planned operation to inspect express delivery and postal packages.
During the document inspection, two packages from a courier company arriving from another EU Member State were selected; these had suspicious senders and recipients and were declared as “souvenirs.” During the subsequent physical inspection, approximately 1,600 items of various products (tea, coffee, gum, jelly candies, cigarette filters, e-cigarettes, hand-rolled cigarettes, etc.) with a total gross weight of 24 kilograms, which contained cannabis and/or other synthetic cannabinoid chemicals.
The aforementioned packages and their contents were seized by the Customs Department and handed over to the Cyprus Anti-Narcotics Agency (YKAN) for further investigation. Following the subsequent investigations, a 31-year-old man was arrested in Limassol as the alleged recipient of the packages, along with a 23-year-old woman who worked at his residence, through which they sold the substances. Following a subsequent search of the premises, additional quantities of cannabinoid substances were discovered and seized by members of the YKAN.
The investigation into the case is ongoing by the YKAN (Limassol Unit).
