The British Base Commands in Dhekelia and Akrotiri are bolstering their forces with four new specialized patrol vehicles and state-of-the-art equipment, as part of intensified efforts to enforce the law.
According to a statement from the British Bases, the four new vehicles, which have already been put into operational service, will be used by the Command’s Control and Law Enforcement Officers during their patrols to identify and address administrative and environmental violations. At the same time, the officers have been equipped with body cameras, digital cameras, and vests.
The Civil Administrator of Akrotiri, George Kiteos, stated that the new vehicles and equipment significantly enhance the teams’ operational capabilities. As he noted: “The Border Guard Administration continues to reinforce its commitment to enforcing the law, protecting the environment, and serving the public by introducing new operational vehicles and body-worn cameras for our officers.
“These enhanced capabilities will improve our effectiveness in addressing administrative and environmental violations, including illegal developments, unauthorized structures, and activities that impact our protected beaches. “Our message is clear: the BB Administration remains committed to the fair, professional, and transparent enforcement of the law. “While we are taking decisive action against those who violate the law, our primary goal is to protect public safety, preserving our unique natural environment, and supporting all those who responsibly use and enjoy these special areas.”
The Civil Administrator of Dekeleia, Maria Pieris-Kyriakidou, added: “The addition of the new patrol vehicles represents a significant upgrade to the capabilities of our Control and Law Enforcement Officers. These vehicles allow our teams to maintain a stronger presence in the BB areas, collaborate more effectively with local communities, and provide more immediate and efficient services.”Inspection and Law Enforcement Officers are out in the communities every day, working with residents, identifying and reporting violations, and helping to ensure compliance with BB regulations. The new vehicles enhance our presence, accessibility, and responsiveness, allowing us to provide even better services to our communities.”
