As part of the operational activities of the Drug Enforcement Agency (YKAN) to combat drug trafficking and distribution, a 63-year-old man was arrested yesterday, and approximately two kilograms of cannabis were seized.
Yesterday afternoon, members of the Drug Enforcement Agency stopped a car driven by a 63-year-old man on the Zygi–Mari road for inspection. During the subsequent search of the vehicle, approximately 500 grams of cannabis were found, leading to his arrest on the spot for a flagrant offense.
A search was then conducted on the farmland and at the properties he owns in the Zygi area, where, following a thorough search by members of the Drug Enforcement Agency (YKAN), three nylon packages were discovered, carefully hidden inside a metal dog cage, containing a total of approximately 1 kilogram and 500 grams of cannabis.
Subsequently, following his written consent, a search was conducted at his residence, where 339 shotgun shells were found and seized as evidence.
In addition, two cell phones were seized as evidence and will undergo forensic analysis, as well as the sum of 743 euros, which is being investigated to determine whether it constitutes proceeds from illegal activities.
The YKAN (Larnaca Unit) is continuing its investigation.
