Parents have voiced strong objections to the reopening of public schools on September 7 and 14, 2026. The online group Family Network conducted a survey of 3,000 citizens, which, among other things, showed that parents are forced to leave their minor children home alone in order to return to work after the summer break.
The survey has been brought to the attention of the Ministry of Education, with a request that the results be examined and measures be taken to resolve this serious problem.
Team coordinator Krista Theofanopoulou noted that during the school year, children are absent from the classroom for about 90 days, while parents are entitled to an average of 21 days of leave from work.
“Grandparents cannot be part of a state’s welfare system. They are not obligated to be. Parents aren’t looking for parking spots for their children, nor are they looking for daycare centers.”
