SIDIKEK PEO mourns the death of its former Secretary-General, Antonis Neophytou.

In a statement, the organization expresses deep sorrow and grief over the death of the veteran PEO union leader.

“His loss deeply moves all those who had the opportunity and the honor to stand alongside him in the struggle for the rights of workers and society. Antonis Neophytou dedicated the most significant part of his life to defending the working class. With selflessness and unwavering commitment to the principles of the PEO labor movement, he fought his battles through the PEO union in the semi-governmental organizations and municipalities, and within SIDIKEK PEO, where he served as General Secretary for 22 years, playing a decisive role in establishing and strengthening its position in the country’s labor movement.”

“He was a member of the PEO Executive Council, playing a decisive role in shaping the PEO’s role and identity as Cyprus’s class-based labor union,” the statement adds.

“Even after his retirement in 2019, he remained active within the PEO, serving in whatever capacity was requested of him. Just as he stood bravely at the forefront of labor and social struggles, so too did he face the ordeal of his health challenges in recent years; unfortunately, however, the battle was unequal.”

“We bid a grateful farewell to our Antonis, who dedicated his life to working people, the PEO, the SIDIKEK PEO, and the popular movement of Cyprus,” the statement continues.

“We express our sincere and deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. PEO will always remember and honor him as a true grassroots activist of our movement.”

The funeral will take place on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Saint Barbara in Kaimakli. The family will receive condolences at the church starting at 1:00 p.m. The burial will take place at the Kaimakli Cemetery.

As a token of appreciation and respect for Mr. Antonis Neophytou, the PEO will cover the costs of his funeral.
