July 15, 1974: Fifty-two years have passed since the treacherous coup, during which 22 members of the Cyprus Police sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, defending their homeland and the supreme values of freedom, democracy, and the rule of law.
This morning, at the Holy Church of Saints Constantine and Helen, a memorial service was held for the fallen in the presence of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nicos Christodoulides, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ms. Annita Dimitriou, the Archbishop of Cyprus, His Eminence Georgios, and other dignitaries.
Representing the Police was Mr. Panikos Stavrou, Deputy Chief of Police, accompanied by Mr. Ioannis Mavrochanna, Assistant Chief (Administration and Training), and senior police officers.
Following the memorial service, a prayer for the dead was held, and wreaths were laid at the graves of the fallen.
