The European Student Card on the cell phone of every CUT student, in two minutes

Rector: “Another important step in the University’s digital transformation”
ALPHANEWSLIVE

Students at the Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK) can now obtain the European Student Card (European Student Card) and have it immediately available on their cell phones.

This new service represents another significant step toward the digitization of the services the University offers its student community and, at the same time, strengthens the European dimension of the student experience by facilitating mobility and the recognition of student status beyond Cyprus’s borders.

The European Student Card allows students to prove their student status throughout Europe, both at host universities under the Erasmus+ program and at libraries, museums, public transportation, and other services that accept the card. Importantly, obtaining the card does not require participation in the Erasmus+ program; it is available to the entire student community at CUT.

The European Student Card was developed in-house at TEPAK, through a collaboration between the Erasmus Mobility Office and the EUt+ Coordination Center, as part of a broader effort to facilitate student mobility in Europe. The issuance process is simple and can be completed in about two minutes, and the card can be saved directly to the user’s cell phone. More information and detailed instructions on the issuance process are available on the dedicated website of the CUT Erasmus Office: https://erasmus.cut.ac.cy/student-card

The Rector of CUT, Professor Panagiotis Zafeiris, welcomed the launch of the new service and highlighted its importance for the University’s student community: “The European Student Card, in its new form, represents a significant development for our students, leveraging the potential of technology to create a simpler and more direct student experience, one that is more closely connected to the European higher education area. This new service is part of CUT’s ongoing effort to digitally transform its processes and services, with the aim of providing more modern and efficient services for the entire university community.”

Since 2020, the digital transformation of the University’s processes has been a consistent priority, with the development and implementation of a series of innovative digital solutions, many of which were designed and developed in-house by CUT staff. These include electronic signatures, electronic management of payment orders and reimbursement for international travel, the electronic platform for faculty elections and promotions, and the digital ID on mobile devices for students and staff.

The results of these efforts are already measurable. CUT was the first public university in Cyprus to implement electronic signatures, in April 2021, and in 2022 alone, 41,215 documents were signed electronically. That same year, 25,840 payment orders were approved electronically, while the implementation of the electronic platform for elections and promotions of faculty members reduced the time required to complete each process by four to six months.
