The camera crew from the TV show “Alpha Kalimera” visited the capital’s most… “run-down” roundabout today.
This is the roundabout at the Latsia-Strovolos border, which belongs to the municipality of Strovolos.

It is a massive roundabout near Nicosia General Hospital, where not a single trace of greenery has been planted, leaving it literally barren.
The only addition to this roundabout was the installation of traffic lights a short while ago.
However, an initiative launched two and a half years ago is expected to breathe new life into it.
Specifically, as George Penintaex, President of the “A Dream, a Wish” Association, mentioned while speaking on the show, through an initiative by the Association in 2024, they approached the local authorities at the time, proposing the creation of a memorial at that site dedicated to children, adolescents, and young people battling cancer.
The Association’s proposal was accepted by the previous City Council and was also adopted by the new City Council.
This specific location, Mr. Penintaex said, is significant because it is very close to both Nicosia General Hospital and the Karaiskakio Foundation.
The monument, Mr. Penintaex noted, will serve as a point of reference for children and young people battling cancer.
The entire process, however, has been underway for two and a half years, with artist Giota Ioannidou having prepared the monument’s designs and the architect having completed the relevant structural study.
Now, the Association is awaiting the issuance of the building permit so that construction can proceed.
The Association has assumed all costs associated with the creation and maintenance of the monument.
