Only a few hours separate Cypriot viewers from the new era that private channels are entering, as starting at midnight on June 30, 2026, they will broadcast exclusively via the new frequencies (35, 48) and DVB-T2 technology. This means that viewers will need to reprogram their devices or purchase a set-top box to continue watching their favorite shows.
The program “Alpha News” and reporter Eleni Michael visited an electronics store and spoke with TV technician Kostas Michael, who explained that set-top boxes are available on the market in USB or desktop formats.
Their prices range from €30 to €35, while most technicians charge around €30 to install the set-top box at the customer’s home and reprogram the channels.
Mr. Michael pointed out that buyers must not forget to connect the antenna cable from the TV to the set-top box. At the same time, he noted that newer TV models are equipped with the necessary technology, so viewers simply need to retune the channels. However, for older-model TVs, it may be necessary to replace the antenna or adjust its direction to ensure optimal reception of the new signal.

Andronikos Kakouras, Deputy Director of the Department of Electronic Communications, explained that in collaboration with the contractor for the new platform, there are specially trained technicians who step in to assist citizens who are having trouble retuning their televisions.
This is done after contacting the website www.hellas-sat.digital or the Customer Service Center at 22000737.
