They Wanted to Escape at All Costs: A Chronicle of the Cinematic Chase in Limassol

Clashes, gunfire, and an injury to a civilian
ALPHANEWSLIVE

Police in Limassol arrested two individuals, aged 19 and 20, yesterday following a vehicle chase and a series of traffic and criminal offenses.

Specifically, around 10:40 a.m. yesterday, while members of the Bicycle Patrol were conducting traffic checks in an area of Limassol, they attempted to stop a vehicle for inspection, which did not have a front license plate.

The driver of the vehicle, while initially complying with the police officers’ signal, subsequently accelerated toward them, putting them in danger. Subsequently, he continued driving recklessly and dangerously, failing to stop at intersections, running red lights and ignoring other traffic signals, and colliding with parked vehicles.

While attempting to stop the vehicle, police officers fired warning shots. The driver initially brought the vehicle to a stop but then accelerated again, steering it toward the police officers and putting them in danger.

The driver continued on his way, and during the chase, both he and the passenger allegedly threw various objects at the police vehicles following them, resulting in damage to the windshield of one of the police vehicles.

The vehicle’s movement came to a halt when it collided with a traffic light and came to a stop. As police officers approached the vehicle, the two passengers allegedly attacked them, resulting in their arrest on the spot for crimes committed in flagrante delicto.

During the subsequent search, a knife was found in the possession of the 19-year-old driver, leading to his arrest on the additional charge of carrying a knife.

The two suspects were taken into custody for the purposes of investigating the case and are expected to appear tomorrow before the Limassol District Court for the issuance of a detention order.

It should be noted that, during the chase, two police officers were injured and transported to Limassol General Hospital, where they received first aid and were discharged. The Limassol Criminal Investigation Department and the Limassol Traffic Police are continuing their investigation.
