It does not, after all, fall under the definition of a “fundraiser” and therefore does not constitute a criminal offense under current law.
This was ruled yesterday, Wednesday, 15 days after the fundraising campaign took place, by the Legal Service, to which the police had turned for an opinion, following the intervention of the Minister of the Interior, who had stated that he had instructed that “a letter be sent to the police as the competent authority, informing them of the act in question and recommending that they proceed with an investigation into whether a criminal offense has been committed under the legislation governing fundraisers.”
It should be recalled that the journalist, through a public appeal for financial support to cover his legal expenses in the wake of the “Sandy” and “State Mafia,” managed to raise over 52,000 euros in just three days.
