Coordinated operations by the Drug Enforcement Agency (YKAN), in collaboration with the Paphos Information Management and Analysis Service (Y.D.A.P.) in Paphos, resulted in the arrest of two individuals on drug-related charges, while a third individual was arrested for assaulting police officers.
Specifically, yesterday, as part of an assessment and investigation of information concerning individuals allegedly involved in the possession and trafficking of narcotics, members of the Paphos Drug Enforcement Unit (YKAN) and the Paphos Anti-Drug Unit (YDAP) conducted searches at three residences and one property in the Paphos district.
The first search was conducted at the residence of a 35-year-old man, where the following were found and seized: 42,500 euros in cash, 345 British pounds, 40 Danish kroner, a quantity of cannabis with a total weight of 89 grams, 1,133 ecstasy tablets, and 90 capsules of anabolic substances. The 35-year-old was arrested on the spot for these offenses, and during a subsequent search of his vehicle, an additional quantity of cannabis was found and seized, weighing a total of five grams, resulting in his re-arrest. The 35-year-old is expected to appear today before the Paphos District Court for the issuance of a detention order.
In a second search, at the home of a 40-year-old woman, a quantity of cannabis weighing 3.4696 grams was found and seized. The 40-year-old woman was arrested on the spot and taken to the Paphos YKAN offices, where she was questioned. She was subsequently charged in writing and then released, to be summoned later to appear in court.
Regarding the third investigation, which took place at the home of a 35-year-old man, as members of the YKAN and YDAP entered the residence, the 35-year-old began verbally abusing the police officers and assaulted two of them. As a result, he was arrested for offenses committed in the act. Subsequent searches of the residence and a property he owns in Paphos revealed nothing illegal.
As a result of the attack, the two police officers were injured and transported to Paphos General Hospital, where they received first aid and were subsequently discharged. The YKAN (Paphos Unit) and the Paphos Minor Offenses Department are continuing their investigation.
