A 31-year-old man was taken into custody after being arrested today in the Paphos district for offenses committed in the act involving negligent driving, dangerous and reckless driving, causing traffic accidents and fleeing the scene, as well as driving without a driver’s license and without a valid insurance certificate.
According to the evidence under review, at around 11:30 a.m., a driver, while traveling on Griva Digeni Avenue in Paphos, stopped at a certain point, reversed, collided lightly with a vehicle behind him, and then fled the scene.
A police officer who was in the area noticed the incident and attempted to stop the vehicle. However, the driver did not comply with the officer’s instructions and accelerated, driving dangerously and recklessly through city streets.
While attempting to flee, he collided with other vehicles, causing property damage. Later, he abandoned his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.
He was eventually stopped and arrested by police officers. During the incident, a warning shot was fired into the air.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the suspect is a 31-year-old man who is residing illegally in the Republic of Cyprus.
The Minor Offenses Division and the Paphos Traffic Police are continuing their investigation.
