In the occupied territories, the incident continues to be exploited for political gain. Following reports of racist motives behind the attack, false information circulated on social media claiming that the 47-year-old man had succumbed to his injuries. Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman denied the rumor.
“The ‘Deputy Minister of Health,’ Duriye Deren Oygur, contacted the hospital in the free areas and, after consulting with two different officials, informed me that the citizen is still alive, although his condition remains serious.”
According to information from the authorities, the 47-year-old frequently visited Ayia Napa. The fourth suspect was placed in seven-day pretrial detention.
