Pamporidis' Complaint: “They turned away a patient with postoperative complications, citing a lack of beds”

"If the patient dies, I believe the issue of criminal liability for all those involved will arise."

DISY MP Giorgos Pamporidis lodged a serious complaint regarding a private hospital’s refusal to admit a patient who had been transferred there with postoperative complications.

As he stated in a post on X, “The admissions department of a private hospital in Nicosia turned away a patient who was transported there with postoperative complications following a series of surgeries performed by a doctor at that very hospital, citing a lack of beds as the reason.”

According to the Member of Parliament, the patient was subsequently transferred to Nicosia General Hospital “which, in cases of postoperative complications involving private patients such as this one, generally refuses admission under the pretext of a shortage of beds.”

These practices are reprehensible and have no place in the General Healthcare System (GHS), nor do the “medical professionals” involved, adds Mr. Pamboridis.

The issue has been brought before the Hellenic Accreditation Organization (OAU), with Mr. Pamboridis having presented the evidence he has to the Organization, while the member of parliament is proceeding immediately to file a complaint regarding the incident with the Patient Ombudsman.

“If this particular patient passes away, I believe the issue of criminal liability for all those involved will arise. This includes both medical and administrative staff. Those who do not respect patients have no place in our healthcare system.”
