What is the authorities' initial assessment?

Authorities in Limassol are examining new evidence following the discovery of 27 kilograms of ketamine in the possession of two Israelis, who were arrested on Tuesday night. Investigators are also looking into a possible connection to the case involving nearly 400 kilograms of ketamine that were discovered a few days ago.

According to a report by the station’s correspondent Erica Kavazi on the program “Alpha News,” the Cyprus Anti-Narcotics Agency (YKAN) appears to be facing a criminal group that was facilitating the arrival of ketamine in Cyprus.

It should be noted that a warehouse worker was arrested in connection with the large quantity of nearly 400 kilograms of ketamine that had been discovered a few days earlier. Yesterday, acting on a tip, members of the agency went to a specific Airbnb-style apartment, which appears to have been rented by two individuals of Israeli origin. Inside the apartment, officers found 27 kilograms of ketamine, other narcotics, and 10,000 euros.

Upon their arrest, the 23-year-old and the 24-year-old attacked the police officers, resulting in minor injuries to a member of the Drug Enforcement Unit (YKAN). The YKAN officer suffered swelling on the lips and redness in the eye; after receiving first aid, he was discharged.

According to information obtained by Alpha, the two were also renting a second apartment in the area where a small amount of drugs was found. It is possible that the two apartments were rented so that the drugs could be stored in one and the two arrested individuals could live in the other.

Today, the two were brought before a court, which ordered their detention for eight days.

Meanwhile, a decision is pending on whether the three suspects arrested in connection with the large quantity of ketamine—which was again found in a house in Limassol and in a warehouse—will remain in custody.

The authorities’ initial assessment is that the two cases are related; however, it is noted that this is not the first case that led to the investigation into the 27 kg of ketamine. This is independent information that was received by the National Agency for Combating Drugs (YKAN) and the National Agency for Combating Organized Crime (YDAP).
