A yellow warning for extreme maximum temperatures, which are expected to reach 40 degrees Celsius in inland areas of the island, was issued for today, Sunday, by the Meteorological Department.

As stated in the warning, it will be in effect from 11 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Today, the weather will be mostly clear, while around noon and afterward, there will be locally increased cloud cover, mainly in the mountains. Winds will be mainly southwesterly to northwesterly, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort, and will gradually become moderate to strong along the coast, 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will initially be generally calm to slightly rough, but will gradually become slightly rough by the afternoon in the southwest, west, and north. Temperatures will reach around 40 degrees inland, around 32 on the southwestern and western coasts, around 35 along the rest of the coast, and around 29 degrees in the higher mountainous areas.

Tonight, the weather will be generally clear, though low clouds will gradually increase, mainly in coastal areas. Later on and during the early morning hours, patchy fog or mist may form locally, mainly in eastern areas. Winds will gradually become light and downslope, at 3 Beaufort. The sea will be generally calm to slightly rough, though locally in the west and north it will remain slightly rough. Temperatures will drop to around 23 degrees inland and along the coast, and to around 19 degrees in the higher mountainous areas.

On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, the weather will be generally mostly clear, though there will be periods of increased local cloud cover.

Temperatures are not expected to change significantly through Wednesday, remaining above seasonal averages.
