Sheep and goat farmers are calling for immediate government support due to the increased costs they are facing.
Speaking on the “Alpha Kalimera” program, Sotiris Kadis, President of the Sheep and Goat Farmers’ Producers’ Group, stated that the government has implemented some measures that he considers appropriate, but which nevertheless impose a huge cost on goat and sheep farmers.
“Many goat and sheep farmers cannot cope.”
As costs continue to rise, goat and sheep farmers are appealing to the government for compensation. Mr. Kadis stated that a meeting will be held with the relevant authorities to assess the issue.
When asked about the status of the milk quota, Mr. Kadis stated that the decree remains in effect until the end of the year; however, as he noted, court decisions are pending.
He explained that the relevant authorities cannot provide a specific timeline for easing restrictions because they do not know how the disease will evolve.
According to him, if the epidemiological situation continues as it is and there are no new cases, the easing of restrictions will begin this week.
