The improper speed bumps on Cypriot roads remain a “headache,” as they continue to cause serious problems for vehicles, despite the fact that in 2023 it was decided that 2,500 of them would be removed.
According to the latest official data obtained from the Ministry of Transport and presented on the Alpha Kalimera show by journalist Eleni Fanari, from February 2023 through July 2026, 337 speed bumps were removed from Cypriot roads out of the 2,500 that had been planned, which is a rather small number.
This issue is being addressed by a technical committee composed of various government agencies, such as the Police, the Department of Public Works, the Department of Urban Planning, and the municipality or community, as applicable.

A request to remove a speed bump must be brought to the table, discussed, and evaluated by all parties together so that a decision can be made as to whether it should indeed be removed or not. If it is determined that it should be removed, the speed bump is then documented and removed. It should be noted that the removal of a speed bump costs 1,200 euros.
Regarding the widespread problem of protrusions, former DIKO MP Christos Orfanidis appeared on the Alpha Kalimera show to discuss the issue.
