“PORT SHIELD 2026”: Stunning images from the counterterrorism exercise at the Port of Limassol

The counterterrorism exercise titled “PORT SHIELD 2026,” which took place today at the Port of Limassol, has concluded, as part of the ongoing cooperation between the Cyprus Police, the Cyprus Ports Authority, and the Eurogate Container Terminal Limassol.

The exercise was conducted in accordance with the provisions of the approved Port Security Plan (PSP), the requirements of the Port Facility Security Plans (PSPS) and the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code).

“PORT SHIELD 2026” was conducted as a full-scale field exercise involving the full deployment of forces, based on a scenario involving a terrorist incident affecting the security of a ship and port facilities. Through this realistic simulation of operational conditions, the operational readiness, the effectiveness of the security measures in place, as well as the coordination and cooperation procedures among the agencies involved.

At the same time, the exercise helped staff become more familiar with crisis management procedures and operational data at the Eurogate Container Terminal Limassol, as well as those of the other port facilities operated by DP World and the Cyprus Ports Authority (Retained Area).

Participants in the exercise included departments and services of the Cyprus Police, the Ambulance Service, the Fire Department, the Deputy Ministry of Shipping, the Cyprus Ports Authority, Eurogate Container Terminal Limassol, which was responsible for organizing and conducting the exercise at its facilities, as well as the port facilities of DP World and the Cyprus Ports Authority (Retained Area).

The exercise reaffirmed the importance of continuous training, interoperability, and close cooperation among all relevant government agencies and port facility operators, with the aim of maintaining a high level of readiness and effectively responding to incidents that could affect the security of the Republic of Cyprus’s critical port infrastructure.
