A 24-year-old motorcyclist is fighting for his life while hospitalized in extremely critical condition at Nicosia General Hospital.

Under circumstances that are currently under investigation, the 24-year-old appears to have lost control of his motorcycle, causing it to overturn on Agia Thekla – Sotiras Road, around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The 24-year-old was initially transported by ambulance to the Famagusta General Hospital and then, due to the severity of his condition, was transferred to the Nicosia General Hospital. According to the doctors on duty, his condition is considered extremely critical.

The Police Spokesperson, Byron Vyronos, clarified on the “Alpha Enimerose” program that the 24-year-old motorcyclist did not collide with another vehicle, as the accident occurred while he was riding alone. The police are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances under which the accident occurred.

Meanwhile, the police announced yesterday that they would be conducting a Cyprus-wide campaign of traffic checks, with the aim of intensifying enforcement against motorcycles and mopeds.

The campaign will begin today, Monday, September 7, 2026, and will conclude on Sunday, September 13, 2026. Throughout the campaign, members of the Traffic Police will conduct targeted checks, placing particular emphasis on the use of protective helmets, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, speeding, and other dangerous and unlawful behaviors on the road.
