A major fire is currently burning in the Evkali area of Pyrga in the Larnaca district, putting the Forestry Department on high alert, which has activated the “Astrap” plan. Significant ground and aerial resources are working to extinguish the fire, which is burning wild vegetation and farmland and also threatening homes.
The Forestry Department was put on alert when information was received early this afternoon regarding a fire in the Pyrga area of the Larnaca district.
According to Forestry Department Spokesperson Glafkos Kyriakou, this is a major incident. The fire broke out in the Evkali area of Pyrga.
Mr. Kyriakou stated that the Forestry Department’s “Astrap” plan has been activated.
Twenty-two vehicles are assisting in the large-scale operation, while aircraft from the Forestry Department are also conducting water drops. Assistance from the Fire Department has also been requested.

The fire is burning dense vegetation and farmland planted with grain, and homes are also at risk.
In a post on Platform X, Fire Department Spokesperson Andreas Kettis stated that “a fire that broke out in the Pyrgos area falls under the operational responsibility of the Forestry Department.”
He noted that “the Fire Service is assisting in extinguishing the fire with four fully staffed fire trucks from fire stations in Larnaca and Nicosia.”
