Police officers ruined their "fun" at the schools

The new school year was marked by minor incidents in the early hours of Monday morning, with the police preventing them from escalating and students being prevented from having their now-traditional “pinta.”

Speaking on the Alpha Kalimera program, Police Spokesperson Vyronas Vyronos stated that the police have stepped up measures and drawn up an action plan across all districts to prevent students from spending the night on school grounds.

According to him, three incidents were reported in the Nicosia district involving small fires in trash cans inside or outside schools, which were extinguished through the immediate intervention of police officers.

The school year got off to a smooth start for the 46,430 secondary school students, says Loizos Konstantinou, President of the Secondary Education Parents’ Federation.

Regarding the incidents at schools, Mr. Konstantinou points out that measures were taken to prevent students from entering school grounds, noting that the students were active not inside the building but in the surrounding area.

He noted that due to the heightened security measures that were implemented, some students spent the night in nearby areas and on private property rather than on school grounds.
