With 190 passengers on board, the flight to Italy was grounded after a bomb threat was received

All passengers on a flight scheduled to depart today, Friday, from Larnaca Airport bound for Rome were disembarked following a bomb threat. 

Meanwhile, a preliminary report from the police states that, as part of an investigation into information received at Larnaca Airport, the prescribed protocols have been activated, and all relevant agencies are taking the necessary actions. The information is being assessed and investigated, while the relevant procedures are underway, the statement adds. “The information concerns a threat and necessitates the grounding of a specific aircraft for investigation,” the statement adds.

According to the information available so far, the passengers have disembarked, while a large contingent of police and firefighters, as well as specially trained dogs, are on the scene. The same reports indicate that the police received a call regarding a bomb on an aircraft carrying approximately 190 passengers, who were subsequently evacuated. Their luggage remains on the aircraft.

The aircraft, which was scheduled to depart at 11:10 a.m. for Rome, was not at the gate.

For safety reasons, an adjacent aircraft was moved while a bomb disposal expert was expected to arrive at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
