Following the intervention of the President of the Republic and the cooperation of the Minister of Agriculture, the Commissioner for the Environment, and the Director of the Water Development Department, the protest scheduled for Sunday regarding the serious irrigation problem in the Chrysochou Valley has been suspended, according to an announcement on behalf of the irrigators by Mr. Nestor Michael.
As Mr. Michael states, this intervention now offers the prospect of an immediate temporary water supply to the affected irrigators.
“We express our gratitude for the swift response of all those involved and expect the local branches of the TAU to take action without delay so that the decisions can be implemented immediately. The suspension of the mobilization is a gesture of goodwill and cooperation,” he adds.
“The goal, however, remains clear: to find a definitive, permanent, and sustainable solution for the irrigation of the Chrysochous Valley, in order to protect one of the region’s most important and fertile green spaces. “The Chrysochous Valley must remain alive and green,” he concludes.
