Around 1 a.m. today, police officers conducting checks in the Ayia Napa area signaled a car to pull over for inspection. The driver of the vehicle, in an attempt to evade the checkpoint, reversed at high speed, striking a police officer and then colliding with another parked vehicle before coming to a stop.
It was determined that the driver of the vehicle was a 23-year-old man. He tested positive in a breathalyzer test, with a final reading of 75% instead of 9%. As a result, he was arrested and taken into custody.
The police officer was transported by ambulance to the Famagusta General Hospital, where he received first aid and was discharged. The Ayia Napa Police Station is continuing its investigation.
Earlier in the Paphos district, following a tip from a citizen, a member of Team Z spotted a vehicle being driven recklessly on the highway.
The vehicle was stopped, and the 29-year-old driver was administered a breathalyzer test, which showed a blood alcohol content of 97% instead of the legal limit of 9%. The driver was arrested and taken into custody after being informed that he would face immediate criminal charges. The Paphos Traffic Police are investigating.
36 drivers were taken off the road

As a result, 30 drivers found to be driving under the influence of alcohol were removed from the road. At the same time, 10 preliminary drug tests were conducted, yielding six positive results.
