Linking training to employment is the goal of every modern human resources policy, and it is a consistent priority of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, said Minister Marinos Mousiouttas at the graduation ceremony for the 4th cycle of the Butchers’ Vocational Training Program.
As he noted, vocational education and training is one of the most essential pillars for the country’s development and for enhancing employability. “At a time when the labor market is constantly changing, linking education to the real needs of the economy is a necessity. Programs such as the Butchers’ Vocational Training Program demonstrate in practice that, when academic knowledge meets business experience and the support of professional organizations, the results are tangible and measurable,” he noted.
The Minister emphasized that, as a society, we must restore the status that rightfully belongs to technical and vocational education. “For many years, technical professions were treated as a second choice, even though they form the backbone of the real economy. Today, the reality of the job market reminds us that skilled tradespeople and trained professionals are in high demand and enjoy stable employment prospects. “Young people’s shift toward high-quality vocational training is now a conscious and smart life choice,” he said.
He added that the program has been running for four consecutive years, producing more than forty-five trained professionals, with graduates entering the job market immediately. “This link between training and employment is precisely what every modern human resources policy aims for, and it is a constant priority of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security,”he said, noting that this particular program is a prime example of collaboration.
“Intercollege and the Training and Development Unit of the University of Nicosia, ALPHAMEGA Supermarkets, and the Pancyprian Butchers’ Association have joined forces to create the only comprehensive butcher training program in Cyprus. A program that combines theoretical knowledge with extensive hands-on training in state-of-the-art facilities, and leads to a Level 4 certification under the European Qualifications Framework, recognized throughout the European Union,” he said.
Regarding the importance of collaboration between educational institutions, businesses, and professional associations, the Minister noted that close collaboration among all stakeholders can provide practical solutions to the market’s need for specialized and well-trained personnel. “When education is designed in collaboration with those who have firsthand knowledge of the market’s needs, the result is professionals ready to work and businesses ready to welcome them. It is this model that our Ministry has consistently supported and encouraged,” he said.
The Minister congratulated the candidates, noting that the program creates employment opportunities and strengthens an entire profession.
