One year after the devastating wildfires in the Limassol mountains, the XM Group is moving forward with the second phase of its support plan, utilizing the 5 million euro fund to create large-scale projects and fire protection infrastructure. The initiative focuses on strengthening the resilience of fire-affected communities through targeted, long-term interventions.
As XM’s Senior Corporate Social Responsibility Officer, Ria Argyridou, a key pillar of the initiative is the installation of ten water tanks at strategic locations across Cyprus.
“The fires have highlighted in the clearest possible way how important immediate access to water is during those first critical moments,” he emphasized, noting that this is essential infrastructure with long-term value that will reduce the Fire Department’s response time.

He added, in fact, that these reservoirs “constitute essential infrastructure that can enhance the operational readiness of the fire department and offer a solution that will have lasting value for the communities.”
The locations of the water tanks (three in Paphos, two each in Limassol, Nicosia, and Larnaca, and one in Famagusta) was based on recommendations from the relevant authorities to address specific needs.
The second important aspect concerns the implementation of four separate development projects in the villages of Vouni, Agios Therapon, Agios Amvrosios, and Souni-Zantzia. According to Ms. Argyridou, these specific interventions were decided upon following consultation with the community councils, so that the planning would address the actual needs of each area.
“We spoke with the community councils before these projects were decided upon; they were designed according to the needs of each village,” she explained.
The projects are expected to begin immediately and be completed in about 18 months.
The XM Group’s goal is for these projects to boost tourism, host cultural events, and create modern gathering spaces.
“We hope to see these communities become more vibrant, more resilient, and offer more opportunities for everyone,” Ms. Argyridou concluded, noting that if these new spaces become daily hubs of creativity and growth for residents and visitors alike, then the company will have achieved its goal.
