Kyrenia Shipwreck: Search for missing persons continues; deep-sea search underway to locate them

The “prime minister,” Unal Ustel, met with Turkey’s Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Justice in Ankara, as well as with the Chief of the Turkish General Staff and the Chief of the Turkish Navy,who had met earlier yesterday with the Turkish Vice President and was accompanied by his “coalition” partner and “Deputy Prime Minister,” the Chairman of the Democratic Congress, Fikri Ataoğlu.

According to reports from the occupied territories, Mr. Ustel and Hakan Fidan discussed the search operations to locate the missing persons on the sunken ship off the coast of Kyrenia, the next steps to be taken, cooperation between Turkey and the pseudo-state, and “regional developments.”

In a written statement, Ünal Ustel noted that he also held meetings with the Turkish Minister of National Defense, Yasar Güler, the Chief of the General Staff, General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu, the Commander of the Naval Forces, Admiral Erciyemut Tatlıgöl, technical teams from relevant agencies, and representatives of private companies with experience and technical expertise in underwater search and rescue.

He noted that, as part of his meetings in Ankara, a private company with experience and the necessary technical expertise for deep-sea search operations has been approved.

With Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, he added, they discussed the search and rescue efforts following the accident, as well as the next steps that could be taken to locate the missing persons and the ongoing legal proceedings.

A briefing was also held based on the technical reports prepared by representatives of private companies.

He added that they discussed the investigations and what can be done moving forward in private meetings with the Chief of the General Staff and the Commander of the Naval Forces.

In the context of the ongoing legal proceedings regarding the causes of the maritime accident, Mr. Ustel stated that he had met with the Turkish Minister of Justice, Akin Gurek, so that “every aspect can be clarified and justice can be served.”
