A new incident occurred in the Deneia buffer zone at noon on Wednesday.
Specifically, Turkish soldiers attempted to prevent Greek Cypriot farmers from entering the buffer zone to cultivate their fields.
As Deneia Community Leader Charalambos Alexandrou told Alphanews.live, the situation has now calmed down, while at the same time denouncing that there have been many incidents over the past two months that have not been made public.
At the same time, he criticizes the stance of the mediators, who “stand by as observers, to no avail, while Greek Cypriot farmers are forced each time to leave the area so that calm can be restored.”
However, as Mr. Alexandrou pointed out to us, today the farmers remained at the site and continued their work, with the Turks and the peacekeepers merely acting as observers, until they finished their work and left.
While, as he stated, the Turks refer to a map they have had since 1998, on the basis of which they claim that Greek Cypriots can cross up to a point where a dirt road is located, however, the Greek Cypriots’ fields are located 700 meters further in.
