The Department of Road Transport informs the public that eight (8) CHRYSLER vehicles and two (2) DODGE vehicles that are affected by a recall involving defective TAKATA airbags. In addition, one (1) DAIHATSU vehicle has been identified that is affected by a recall involving a defective airbag.
The above vehicles will be subject to an immediate recall, with an 8-month deadline for completing the recall, for the sake of public road safety. An informational SMS message will be sent to the vehicle owner’s contact number, as registered in the Department’s computer system. In addition, a registered letter will be sent to the mailing address on file in the Department’s computer system.
The Department of Road Transport recommends that the affected vehicles not be used until the defective part has been replaced. This is a serious road safety issue, and prompt compliance prevents serious risks and protects the lives of drivers, passengers, and third parties.
It should be noted that a defective airbag poses the risk of the airbag inflator rupturing, resulting in the ejection of metal fragments, which could cause serious injury or death.
