The Forestry Department has launched a pilot test of a new type of fire retardant that can be used for both prevention and suppression of forest fires as part of efforts to utilize new technologies and materials.
According to an announcement by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment states that this is a biodegradable and environmentally friendly formulation that is applied preventively to dry vegetation and remains effective for several months in the absence of.
It is further noted that in the event of a fire, this formulation acts as a fire retardant and slows the spread of the fire, while it is noted that the same formulation can also be used on an active fire front, with greater fire-suppression effectiveness than water.
The Forestry Department will proceed with an analysis and evaluation of the results with the aim of further improving the forest fire prevention and suppression system, the report concludes.
