Residents of Lakatamia claim they have been left “in the dark”; they reported incidents of cats being shot in the area to the Animal Police, and to date, they have not received any updates on the status of these cases.
As stated on the Alpha News program, Elena Lymbouri, spokesperson for the Ecologists’ Movement, said, “In a residential area, it is unthinkable that animals are being shot and no action is being taken,” she said, noting that incidents of cats being shot have been documented since 2024.
“Something must be done,” she added, calling for an investigation and publicly denouncing the lack of meaningful action. As she stated, cases are not moving forward on the grounds that “there are no witnesses,” though she emphasized that the police should intervene on their own initiative in such cases.
She also reported that since 2023, there has been a complaint regarding dogs kept on a rooftop, yet to date there has been no substantive intervention. As she noted, the issue has been raised by the Ecologists’ Movement, while the police should have taken action on their own initiative.
He also notes that we must all become more aware and protect our little friends.
