Overnight, the police arrested five individuals in the districts of Nicosia and Famagusta for offenses committed in flagrante delicto, including assaulting police officers, resisting lawful arrest, public insult, and other related offenses.
In Nicosia, officers from the Ledra Substation arrested, in two separate incidents, an 18-year-old and a 22-year-old. The 18-year-old was arrested following a chase for participating in a brawl, while the 22-year-old was arrested for causing a disturbance. During their lawful arrest, both attacked police officers, resulting in their arrest for the offenses they committed on the spot.

In the Famagusta district, around 3:15 a.m., members of the Crime Prevention Unit (OPE) intervened in a brawl that broke out at a nightclub. Two individuals, aged 22 and 24, were arrested, while three police officers were injured during the operation. The injured were transported to Famagusta General Hospital, where they received first aid and were discharged. The two suspects are expected to appear in court today for a hearing to determine whether they will be remanded in custody.
In a separate incident in the same district, a 19-year-old man, who was under the influence of alcohol, was arrested after attacking two police officers during a patrol.
These incidents demonstrate that police officers are called upon daily to manage high-risk situations in order to protect the lives, property, and safety of citizens and to ensure public order.
The Police emphasize that any attack against a member of the force while on duty constitutes an attack on the rule of law and the state’s ability to effectively protect society. Violence and obstruction of police work will not be tolerated and will be addressed immediately and with the appropriate severity, always within the framework of the law.
