“The President of the Republic’s announcements regarding new projects and upgrades at public hospitals raise legitimate questions, as the Famagusta district is absent from the plans.”
This was pointed out by Yiannis Karousos, President of the Famagusta EOA and former Minister of Transport, in a written statement, in which he explained that “The President of the Republic spoke of ‘projects in every district’ and ‘infrastructure for every citizen, wherever they may be.’
“However, the list of projects announced does not include any new investment for the Famagusta General Hospital or any other public health facility in the district. The Famagusta district cannot remain on the margins of national planning. The Famagusta Hospital is called upon to serve tens of thousands of permanent residents, while during the summer months, demand increases significantly due to heavy tourist activity.”
Mr. Karouros poses three questions to the government, emphasizing that “it must provide clear answers”
- Why is the Famagusta district excluded from new investments? Does it consider the existing infrastructure sufficient to meet the increased needs?
- What is the plan for upgrading the Famagusta General Hospital?
- What projects are planned, at what cost, and according to what timeline?
“The citizens of the Famagusta District are entitled to equal access to modern, high-quality health services. The government cannot talk about projects in every district when the entire Famagusta District is absent from its own announcements. We expect specific answers and, above all, specific projects.”
