Police Recommendations for Low Speeds
ALPHANEWSLIVE

The police issued recommendations to drivers due to the torrential rains expected on Friday afternoon.

Specifically, torrential rains expected around 4:45 p.m., as well as strong winds, in the areas of Latsia, Pera Chorio Nisou, and Kotsiati in the Nicosia district, are affecting traffic on the road network, particularly on the Nicosia-Limassol Highway, on the section between the Latsia Weigh Station and Kotsiati.

Due to the rain, visibility for passing drivers is limited, and the road surface is slippery in various spots where water is pooling.

The police advise drivers to exercise extreme caution; they are urged to drive at a safe, low speeds, maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead, and keep their headlights on.

Weather Forecast

Seasonal low pressure prevails in the region, while the unstable air mass affecting the island is expected to subside starting Sunday, according to the Cyprus Department of Meteorology.

More specifically, tonight, Friday, the weather will continue to be mostly clear, although at times there will be locally increased low cloud cover, mainly along the coast. Later on and during the early morning hours, patchy fog or mist is expected to form in some areas, particularly in the east and inland regions. Winds will gradually become light, blowing from the south at 3 Beaufort, and the sea will remain calm to slightly choppy. Temperatures will drop to around 19 degrees inland, around 22 degrees along the coast, and around 17 degrees in the higher mountainous areas.

Tomorrow, Saturday, after the morning’s low cloud cover and light fog or mist clear, the weather in most parts of the island will become mostly clear with occasional increased cloud cover. However, around noon and afterward, clouds developing in the mountains and inland areas are expected to bring isolated showers and isolated thunderstorms. Hail is possible during thunderstorms. Winds in the morning will be variable, light, 3 Beaufort, gradually shifting to southwesterly to northwesterly, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort, and temporarily along the windward coasts up to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will initially be calm to slightly rough, but in the afternoon it will be temporarily slightly rough on the windward coasts. Temperatures will rise to around 35 degrees inland, around 30 on the western and southwestern coasts, around 32 degrees along the rest of the coast, and around 25 degrees in the higher mountain areas.

Tomorrow night, the weather will be mostly clear, though at times there will be locally increased low cloud cover, mainly in coastal areas. Later, during the early morning hours, patchy fog or mist is expected to form in some areas, particularly in the eastern and inland regions. Winds will gradually become light, blowing from the downwind direction at 3 Beaufort, and the sea will remain calm to slightly rough.
