Investigations are ongoing into the horrific tragedy in Xylofagou, where two brothers, aged 8 and 10, died a gruesome death inside their father’s car.
Early this morning, the 30-year-old man’s wife was released without conditions. The children’s father is expected to appear again tomorrow before the British Bases Court in Dhekelia.
Investigations so far appear to indicate a mechanical failure in the vehicle. The children entered through a door that was unlocked due to the malfunction. The doors appear to have locked due to a malfunction, trapping the children inside the car.
BRITISH BASES POLICE
“As the investigation is ongoing, the British Bases Police is unable to comment further on the circumstances surrounding the deaths, including the cause of death. We ask that the privacy of the family and all those affected by this tragic incident be respected.”
And while the investigation is at a critical juncture, testimony is also being examined suggesting that the children were startled by an incident and ran to hide in the vehicle.
Although the apartment complex is located on the territory of the Republic, the Cypriot authorities have so far remained outside the scope of the investigation.

Spokesperson: “We have not received any request. The British Bases Police are conducting the investigation.”
The children’s uncle is expected to arrive in Cyprus within the next few hours to arrange for the transfer of the bodies to Bulgaria, where they will be buried. Relatives have launched an online fundraiser to collect money for the funerals of the two unfortunate boys. The costs of transporting the bodies to Bulgaria will be covered by the government.
