"And even in the winter months, it never rained so heavily."

Torrential rains pounded the mountainous regions on Tuesday, and similar conditions are expected today, with the National Meteorological Service issuing a new Yellow Alert for thunderstorms.

Speaking on the “Alpha Summer” show, Kyperounda Community Leader Michalis Hatzimichael stated that the heavy rainfall lasted 1–1.5 hours, adding that “it’s been years since we’ve seen a downpour like this.”

As he noted, the intensity of the rain was unprecedented not only for the community’s residents but also for him personally.

“Even during the winter months, it has never rained this hard,” the community leader remarked.

The severe weather caused significant problems, and the community is working intensively to repair the damage.

“Entire roads have been wiped off the map; roads and orchards have been destroyed—the river has swept them away.”

As Mr. Hatzimichael added, “Yesterday we rushed to get people out of the fields; because of the rivers, they had been stranded in the fields or in their cars.”

Some residents left their vehicles in the fields and walked home.

The community is on its feet, clearing the roads. So far, it has not been possible to access rural roads.

The main roads are open, and they are expected to be fully cleared by the end of the day.

Rain is expected later today, with a Yellow Alert from the Meteorological Service for thunderstorms in effect until 5:00 p.m.

Weather analyst Tasos Ierodiakonou explained on the “Alpha Summer” show that today’s rainfall will not be as heavy as yesterday’s.

Starting tomorrow, temperatures will begin to rise, reaching 37 degrees in inland areas, while on Friday temperatures will hit 40 degrees.

Temperatures are expected to drop again starting next week.
