Today, the police proceeded to locate and seize a firearm, explosives, quantities of drugs, and a sum of money amounting to approximately €40,000, as well as the arrest of a 57-year-old suspect from a village in the Larnaca district, following an assessment and investigation of intelligence.
According to Giorgos Charalambous, head of the Larnaca Criminal Investigation Department (CID), as part of efforts to combat serious and organized crime, the Larnaca CID, in cooperation with the YDAP (Information Management and Analysis Service) and the Larnaca Narcotics Unit, following an evaluation and investigation of information, proceeded today, pursuant to a judicial search warrant, to search the home, vehicles, and premises of a 57-year-old Greek Cypriot from a village in the Larnaca district.
Mr. Charalambous reported that during the search, the following items were found: a pistol, 7 fully loaded pistol cartridges, improvised explosive devices, a quantity of gunpowder, approximately 210 grams of cannabis plant material (gross weight), approximately 70 grams of cocaine (gross weight), approximately 5 grams of cannabis resin, two packages containing cannabidiol, and two precision scales. In addition, approximately 40,000 euros were found and seized.”
He noted that “the police’s discovery of the aforementioned illegal and dangerous items contributes to the prevention and deterrence of future criminal acts.”
The suspect is expected to appear tomorrow before the Larnaca District Court for a detention order to be issued.
The Larnaca Narcotics Unit, in cooperation with the Larnaca Criminal Investigation Department and the Larnaca Police Department, is continuing its investigation.
