Police investigations are in full swing into the family tragedy in Limassol that has shocked the entire island, with the 46-year-old victim fighting for his life.

Speaking on the Alpha News program, Police Spokesperson Byron Vyronos, stated that all aspects of the case are being investigated thoroughly and with the utmost seriousness, based on all the evidence currently available to the police, in order to determine exactly how this heinous crime occurred.

“There is one victim in the hospital in very critical condition; we hope she will pull through and return to her loved ones. The perpetrator went to work, holstered his service weapon—as our officers customarily do when reporting for duty in areas where they are required to be armed— left the premises, saying he was going somewhere for five minutes and would be back—and then what happened, happened.”

When asked whether there would be an investigation into the fact that the police officer was on duty when he committed the attempted femicide, he stated that if any additional investigation is necessary, it will be conducted.

Based on the evidence so far, it appears that the 55-year-old met with his wife outside the school, where their conversation escalated into an argument and a heated confrontation. When a passerby intervened, the 55-year-old allegedly asked him to leave, brandishing his service weapon, and then turned it on his wife and shot her, before turning the gun on himself.

The 46-year-old woman, the victim of this unimaginable criminal act that took place in Limassol, remains in extremely critical condition. The coming hours are considered particularly difficult and critical for her survival.

The 46-year-old mother of three, who was shot by her 55-year-old police officer husband, underwent several hours of surgery, first at Limassol General Hospital and then at a second hospital, where she was transferred yesterday afternoon. The 46-year-old woman sustained injuries to her head and body from her husband’s service weapon; he subsequently took his own life.

The attempted murder, which is being investigated by the Limassol CID, took place shortly before 7:00 a.m. outside the Agios Spyridonas High School in Zakaki. The police officer left the Port Authority office and was seen at some point following his wife in his vehicle in the Zakaki area. Both the victim and the perpetrator stopped outside the school; the 55-year-old got out of the car, got into the 46-year-old woman’s vehicle, and, according to an eyewitness, they began arguing before the fatal incident.

“I turned around, saw him grabbing her by the throat, and told him to let her go. He told me, ‘Get out of here—she’s my wife.’ She wasn’t speaking; she was pointing at me with her hand and asking for help. He pulled a gun from his waistband, pointed it at me, and said, ‘I’ll shoot you,’ while at the same time shooting his wife.”

Authorities are reviewing closed-circuit footage from the area, while the cell phones of both the 46-year-old woman and the 56-year-old man are also under scrutiny. The aim is to determine whether there was any communication prior to the fateful encounter or whether the 55-year-old knew the route the 46-year-old would take and set up an ambush for her.

The suspect is a police officer who began his shift yesterday morning at 6:07 a.m., and it appears that upon starting his shift, he had been issued the specific weapon, which appears to have been used in the incident.

Investigators are taking statements from friends, family, and colleagues of the 46-year-old woman and the 55-year-old man. Information available so far points to financial problems between the couple related to gambling.
